Memories lived in the Itulcachi Brigade by Dr. Gabriela Walsman Leiva. My experience in the medical brigade in Itulcachi was deeply moving, enriching and exciting. Returning to my beloved Ecuador to serve the community allowed me to give back a little of how much my country has given me. During two intense days, we cared for approximately 600 patients with the help of 31 volunteer health professionals, providing necessary medical, dental and psychological care and support to those who needed it most. In addition, making home visits left a lasting impression on me, especially meeting a COPD patient and a teenager with epilepsy syndrome. The stories of these patients, and particularly the love and dedication of the teenager’s mother, touched my heart deeply. This brigade was also a unique opportunity to reunite with my colleagues, with whom I had not worked since we graduated 20 years ago. I celebrated this important anniversary of my graduation in Ecuador by serving my patients alongside them. Working side by side with my colleagues was a real privilege, and the camaraderie and mutual support made the experience truly unforgettable. In addition, it was my first brigade organized with a group of professionals, with the invaluable support of my family in Ecuador, who are always in my heart. There are experiences that mark us forever, and this brigade in Itulcachi is one of them. I will always remember these days not only for the service provided, but also for the joy of sharing such significant moments with colleagues and loved ones, reaffirming my commitment and passion for medicine and for helping those who face difficulties.
